Torre de Taburetes: 1Y Architects' Red Stool Tower for Foshan 2026

For the 2026 Foshan International Cultural and Creative Week, 1Y Architects, led by principal architect Fan Chang, created a 36-square-meter installation titled 'Torre de Taburetes' (Tower of Stools). The project, commissioned by SMART Cultural and Creative Co., Ltd, with construction by N-Design, was inspired by the everyday life of the Cantonese population, specifically the ubiquitous red plastic stools. The installation, photographed by Yifan Chen, is categorized under installations and structures. The architects immersed themselves in local culture to select an object that best represents the distinctive character of popular life, ultimately choosing the red plastic stool as a symbol of communal and domestic activity. The project is slated for completion in 2027, as indicated by the project year. The design was curated by Han Shuang, and the original description was provided in Spanish, with an English version available. The installation aims to capture the essence of local identity through a common object, transforming it into an artistic statement for the cultural event.
