Toro Arquitectos Designs Feltrinelli Bookstore in Montevideo's Historic Building

architecture-design · 2026-05-01

Toro Arquitectos has designed a new Feltrinelli bookstore in Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja, set within the historic Pablo Ferrando building from 1917. The 754 m² project, curated by Valentina Díaz, involves remodeling the former optics shop into a café and library. Key team members include project director Ernesto Figueroa, project coordinator Cecilia Matteo, construction manager Josefina Teles, and project designer Milena Mercado. The building's heritage features—facade, stained glass, skylight, and main staircase—will be preserved. Suppliers include Anibal ABBATE and Bosch. Photographs are by Juan Nin. The project is slated for completion in 2026.
