Torino's Oldest Bookstore Relocates to Galleria Subalpina

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Libreria Internazionale Luxemburg, one of Italy's oldest bookstores founded in 1872 as Libreria Beuf, has moved 50 meters from its historic location to a new 200-square-meter space within the Galleria Subalpina in Turin. The new premises, designed by architecture firm BRH+ (Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò), merge three units and feature restored original wooden furnishings, a brick vaulted ceiling, dark walls, and contemporary design elements. The bookstore now has dual entrances with ten display windows. The project includes a café in collaboration with Caffè Baratti & Milano and Mutina ceramics, featuring works by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Michael Anastassiades, and Nathalie Du Pasquier. The bookstore, known for its international selection and LGBTQ+ section, has been owned by Antonio Pittarelli and Gigi Ràiola since 2002. It has curated the Gallerie d'Italia Torino bookshop since 2022 and manages the Adelphi stand at the Salone del Libro. The new space also dedicates a room to Einaudi's catalog.
