Torino's Luci d'Artista turns 20 with expanded citywide edition

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Luci d'Artista, the public art festival that made Turin internationally famous, celebrates its 20th edition in 2017. Running from November 20 to January 14 (80 days), the event will display all 25 works from the collection created since 1997: 14 in the historic center and 11 across the city's eight districts. New this year, Intesa Sanpaolo becomes a partner, lighting its 166-meter skyscraper with a double installation by Migliore+Servetto Architects featuring a spiral movement. The festival includes iconic works such as Daniel Buren's 'Tappeto volante' (a checkerboard of cubic lanterns in primary colors) in Piazza Palazzo di Città, Mario Merz's 'Il volo dei numeri' (Fibonacci sequence) on the Mole Antonelliana, and Michelangelo Pistoletto's 'amare le differenze' in 39 languages at Porta Palazzo. Other highlights: Nicola De Maria's 'Regno dei fiori' in Piazza San Carlo, Piero Gilardi's 'Migrazione (Climate Change)' in Galleria San Federico (with a new permanent work at PAV), and Tobias Rehberger's binary clock 'My noon' in Circoscrizione 3. The festival aims to bring contemporary art to all areas of the city, from center to suburbs.
