Torino's Immersive 'Soundframes' Traverses 100 Years of Cinema History
The Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Torino launches 'Soundframes', a multimedia and immersive exhibition exploring the relationship between music and moving images. Conceived by Donata Pesenti Campagnoni, the museum's interim director, the project combines an exhibition, the Seeyousound festival, and events throughout the year. Curated by Grazia Paganelli and Stefano Boni, with Maurizio Pisani (director of Seeyousound, running until February 4), the show presents a chronological journey from silent film to music videos across 50 screens on the helical ramp of the Mole Antonelliana's Aula del Tempio. Wireless headphones activate automatically at each screen. The exhibition coincides with the centenary of Leonard Bernstein's birth. It runs until January 7, 2019. Upcoming events include a November meeting with Michael Nyman, a performance by Colapesce with Vittorio De Seta's images in autumn, and live soundtrack sessions at Cinema Massimo, such as Julie's Haircut on April 11 for Josef von Sternberg's 1928 film 'The Last Command', and a retrospective on Anton Corbijn, featuring a clip from his film 'Control' about Ian Curtis.
