Torino's Cavallerizza Reale competition shortlists Lacaton & Vassal among 12 finalists
A design competition for the Cavallerizza Reale's redevelopment in Turin has concluded its two-phase selection process, identifying 12 finalist teams from a pool of 47 submissions spanning 12 nations. Sponsored by Compagnia San Paolo, the University of Turin, and the City of Turin, with backing from Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and other entities, the initiative seeks to transform the 17th-century site into a global cultural center. The jury, led by architect Michele De Lucchi, features prominent figures like Alberto Anfossi and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani. Among the finalists are Balance Architettura and Lacaton et Vassal. The winner, to be revealed by January 16, 2023, will earn €200,000, with the overall project estimated at €34.5 million and projected investments of around €100 million over five years.
