Torino Film Festival Honors Daniele Segre with Screening of 'Ragazzi di stadio'

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The Torino Film Festival pays tribute to Daniele Segre (Alessandria, 1952 – Torino, 2024), who passed away on February 4, 2024, just shy of his 72nd birthday. Artistic director Giulio Base reached out to Segre's son Emanuele for the digital restoration of 'Ragazzi di stadio,' a 60-minute 16mm film from 1980 that explores organized fan culture in Italian stadiums. Segre was a regular at Juventus and Torino games, documenting the behavior of fans. Carlo Chatrian commended Segre's unique documentary approach, which reflects a generation's political apathy and passion for sports. His trilogy concluded in 2018 with a focus on Juventus ultras, Drughi. Before his passing, he was finalizing a documentary on Bruno Segre and taught at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, engaging with various social issues.
