Torino Design of the City: A Week of Urban Regeneration Events

Turin, the first World Design Capital in 2008, is hosting Torino Design of the City from October 10 to 16, 2017, a week of events focused on design as a tool for urban renewal. The initiative coincides with the World Design Organization's (formerly ICSID) 60th anniversary convention, returning to Italy for the first time since 1983. Key venues include Via Sacchi, Cavallerizza Reale, Torino Incontra, Lingotto Fiere, and Circolo del Design. Via Sacchi, a kilometer-long arcaded axis suffering from commercial desertification and social decay, will host temporary reuse of vacant shops for seminars, exhibitions, markets, and performances from October 10 to 30. Torinostratosferica, a mini-festival from October 13 to 15 at Bellissimo Blue Loft, explores the city's utopian potential with talks, exhibitions, and international guests. The Biennale del Piemonte On Tour 2017, from October 11 to December 3, features art design by Corrado Bonomi, Ferdi Giardini, Piero Gilardi, and Ugo Nespolo at venues including Fonderie Teatrali Limone in Moncalieri, Galleria Panta Rei in Turin, and Interni Bonetti. Studio65's permanent exhibition of Pop Art design opens at Docks Dora from October 11 to 16, organized by Associazione Il Mercante di Nuvole.
