Torino celebrates Camera's 5th anniversary with five photography exhibitions
Torino is experiencing a boom in photography exhibitions across its major museums, led by CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia, which marks its fifth anniversary with a rich program running until October 4, 2020. Among the highlights: an unprecedented color Robert Capa exhibition at Musei Reali, featuring over 150 color images, personal letters, and magazine clippings curated by Cynthia Young from the International Center of Photography in New York, on view until January 31, 2021. At CAMERA, a project room showcases Gianni Berengo Gardin's previously unseen black-and-white photographs documenting his professional relationship with Olivetti, curated by Margherita Naim and Giangavino Pazzola, open until November 15, 2020. The Reggia di Venaria hosts a retrospective of Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin, curated by Germano Celant, with over 200 works covering war and climate crises, plus an intimate series shot during lockdown in Switzerland, until January 31, 2021. At GAM, Helmut Newton's exhibition has been extended to November 8, 2020, featuring 68 photographs curated by Matthias Harder of the Helmut Newton Foundation Berlin, running alongside a show on non-objective and informal photography in Italy. MEF Museo Ettore Fico presents a retrospective of Massimo Vitali with around 30 works spanning 25 years, organized with Mazzoleni gallery (London and Torino), titled "Costellazioni umane," until December 20, 2020.
