Torino Art Week 2021: Flashback and The Others Fairs Return

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Following the conclusion of miart in Milan, the first Italian fair to return in person, Turin signals its restart with the announcement of two concurrent art fairs: Flashback and The Others, both scheduled for November 4–7, 2021. The Others, celebrating its tenth edition, adopts a female-focused curatorial board and an international scope, featuring exhibitors from Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, and Cuba. The fair will occupy Padiglione 3 of Torino Esposizioni, a historic industrial space it aims to revitalize. Highlights include a project by Mouches Volantes from Cologne examining women's roles in Kurdish culture, and two galleries exclusively representing women artists: SheBam! from Leipzig and Crumb Gallery from Florence. The fair introduces a radial layout to foster new connections. Flashback moves to a new venue at the barracks in via Asti and adopts the theme 'The Free Zone / La Zona Franca,' inspired by philosopher François Jullien's concepts of 'scarto' (gap) and 'tra' (between). Directors Ginevra Pucci and Stefania Poddighe explain the theme as a response to the pandemic's constraints on freedom and sociality, aiming to create a space for collective reflection. The fair's guiding image, a 'discarded' photograph by artist Enrico Bertelli, visually represents this edition. Both fairs are part of the Torino Contemporary Art Week.
