Torbjørn Rødland's Fifth Honeymoon exhibition at Kiasma blends mysticism and abstraction
Torbjørn Rødland's exhibition, titled Fifth Honeymoon, was showcased at Kiasma in Helsinki from 13 September 2019 until 5 January 2020. The display included 35 photographs alongside a single video, merging elements of abstraction, symbolism, and esotericism through still lifes, landscapes, and duo portraits. Key themes featured in the works are marriage, rings, tarot cards, and the number five. Highlighted pieces consist of Ace of Cups (2017), a chromogenic print, and the series Painbody (2015–18), created using black-and-white silver gelatin prints. Midlife Dilemma (2015) addresses intergenerational conflict. The five-minute video, Between Fork and Ladder (2018), showcases Californian and Norwegian scenery with a Japanese voiceover. The exhibition promotes diverse interpretations, guided by the artist's prompts. A review was published in ArtReview's December 2019 issue.
