Torbjørn Rødland's debut UK exhibition at Serpentine Sackler Gallery showcases unsettling photography

The Touch That Made You, Torbjørn Rødland's inaugural exhibition in the UK, took place at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery from 29 September to 19 November. This LA-based artist, originally from Norway, presented a collection of photography spanning two decades, characterized by unsettling contrasts. Key pieces include Frost no.4 (2001), Avocado (2013), and Candles and Cubes (2016), which delve into themes of consumption and culinary anxiety. Intraoral no.1 (2015) portrays the human mouth as a realm of concealed desires. Fetishistic motifs are evident in Goldene Tränen (2002), while disembodied body parts appear in works like Bathroom Tiles (2010-13) and Red Pump (2014). Rødland also offers a critique of celebrity culture in pieces such as Heiress with Dogs (2014) and Blue Portrait (Nokia N82) (2009).
