topoloy's 'Arc of the Wind' kinetic installation breathes at Taikoo Li Sanlitun

architecture-design · 2026-05-19

Studio topoloy has unveiled 'Arc of the Wind', a kinetic installation at the gaga flagship store in Beijing's Taikoo Li Sanlitun. The work translates the structural logic of traditional Chinese kites and blossoming flowers into a slow, breathing-like movement. Suspended above the dining area, it combines mechanical actuation, tensile transmission, programmed rhythm, and integrated lighting. The installation operates from 10 am to 11 pm daily, following the venue's rhythm. It is modular, with all joints mechanically connected without glue, using CNC machining and 3D printing for precision. Photographed by Li Xin, the piece aims to be a companion-like presence rather than a spectacle.
