Top and Flop of Milan Design Week 2025
Milan Design Week 2025 saw a mix of successes and failures. Highlights included Cassina's immersive performance 'Staging Modernity' at Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® collection, curated by Formafantasma with direction by Fabio Cherstich and texts by Emanuele Coccia, Andrés Jaque, and Feifei Zhou. Dedar presented works by Anni Albers at Torre Velasca, while Michael Anastassiades' lamps were displayed at Fondazione Danese alongside Bruno Munari's bamboo vases. Campeggi showed Vico Magistretti's transformable furniture at Torre al Parco. The exhibition 'ROMANTIC BRUTALISM' by Federica Sala for Visteria Foundation celebrated Polish design centenary. Labò, curated by The Design Blender, offered a quieter experience in Barona. The Salone del Mobile organized talks with Bob Wilson, Paolo Sorrentino, and Es Devlin, whose 'Library of Light' installation at Pinacoteca di Brera was a standout. Flops included excessive queues and gadget hunting, the encroachment of fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Loro Piana, and Gucci, a lack of engagement with contemporary issues, the decline of Zona Tortona, and the overlap with Vinitaly.
