Top 10 Architecture Projects of 2016 Worldwide

Artribune's 2016 architecture top ten features ten landmark projects across Europe and the US. In Washington, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture by David Adjaye opened on September 24 with Barack Obama. In Milan, Herzog & De Meuron completed their first Italian work, Fondazione Feltrinelli, with 15,000 sqm partly occupied by Microsoft Italia. In Athens, Renzo Piano's Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, covered by 5,560 photovoltaic panels, houses the Greek National Opera and National Library. In Lisbon, AL_A's MAAT museum opened in October, led by Pedro Gadahno. In London, Tate Modern's Switch House by Herzog & De Meuron added 60% more space, while the New Design Museum by OMA and John Pawson opened with 'Fear and Love'. In Rome, Massimiliano Fuksas' 'La Nuvola' convention center debuted after 18 years. In Salerno, Zaha Hadid's first posthumous work, the Maritime Station, opened. In Prato, Maurice Nio's expansion of Centro Pecci, 'Sensing from the Waves', debuted with 'La fine del mondo'. In Venice, OMA's Fondaco dei Tedeschi reopened as a department store.
