Tony Garifalakis and Hari Koutlakis at Hugo Michell Gallery
From July 30 to August 22, 2026, Adelaide's Hugo Michell Gallery showcases simultaneous exhibitions featuring two artists of Greek descent, Tony Garifalakis and Hari Koutlakis. In the main gallery, Garifalakis presents 'Endism (doom sessions),' consisting of one hundred A2-sized works on paper (approximately 60 × 42cm). These unframed pieces, displayed in five sets of twenty against a rough black plastic backdrop, incorporate collage, painting, drawing, digital printing, and photography. Garifalakis describes the eclectic mix as 'all over the shop,' highlighting its rawness. Meanwhile, Koutlakis's 'Mass information' occupies the smaller space, showcasing a monochromatic installation with geometric shapes and optical illusions, including a sculptural feature emerging from the corner. This marks Koutlakis's first commercial exhibition after a decade of creating installations and murals, as he draws from landscapes and tessellation to craft introspective, oscillating works. Both artists examine pattern, design, and impact through their process-oriented approaches, under the curation of Hugo Michell Gallery in South Australia.
