Tony Cragg to Receive European Culture Award in Amsterdam

British sculptor Tony Cragg will receive the European Culture Award on September 4, 2026, at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The award is presented by the European Culture Forum, honoring Cragg as one of the most influential sculptors in recent decades. Cragg has lived and worked in Wuppertal, Germany, where he founded the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park. The laudatory speech will be given by Felix Krämer, Director General and Artistic Director of the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. Together, they organized the acclaimed exhibition "Tony Cragg: Please Touch!" at the Kunstpalast in 2024, which invited visitors to experience his works through touch. Reiner Schränkler, president of the Cultural Forum Council, stated that Cragg won because his works uniquely combine science, nature, material research, and artistic vision. Since 2012, the award recognizes exceptional achievements for European culture, given to individuals and institutions whose vision and creativity have enduringly contributed to intellectual life on the continent. Previous recipients include Gerhard Richter, Vivienne Westwood, Sol Gabetta, Neo Rauch, and Rolando Villazón.
