Tonino Guerra's Artistic Universe at Castello Sismondo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

An exhibition titled 'Il mondo di Tonino Guerra' at Castello Sismondo in Rimini showcases the visual art of the late screenwriter and poet Tonino Guerra (1920-2012). After leaving Rome in the late 1980s, Guerra devoted himself to visual arts in his native Romagna, creating a poetic universe of colorful organic forms, whimsical characters, ceramic sculptures, stoves, furniture, and anthropomorphic plates and vases. The exhibition, curated by Luca Cesari, highlights three decades of imagination produced with a factory of artists, artisans, architects, and landscape designers. Guerra is best known to the public for a TV commercial where he said 'optimism is the perfume of life,' but his screenwriting credits include collaborations with Michelangelo Antonioni, Mario Monicelli, Vittorio De Sica, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Federico Fellini (with whom he co-wrote 'Amarcord').
