Toni Servillo narrates Emilio Vedova documentary at Venice Film Festival

A documentary on Venetian painter Emilio Vedova (1919-2006), titled 'Emilio Vedova. Dalla parte del naufragio', premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Giornate degli Autori program. Directed by Tomaso Pessina and produced by the Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova, the film uses Vedova's diaries read by actor Toni Servillo as its narrative thread. It features archival materials and interviews with art world figures including Alfredo Bianchini (president of the Fondazione Emilio Vedova), Annabianca Vedova, Germano Celant, Karole Vail (director of the Guggenheim Foundation and Peggy Guggenheim's granddaughter), Fabrizio Gazzarri (Vedova's longtime collaborator), and German painter Georg Baselitz. Released for the centenary of Vedova's birth, the documentary draws from his autobiographical book 'Emilio Vedova, Pagine di Diario' (early 1960s) to explore his creative process against the backdrop of fascism, the partisan struggle, post-war society, and avant-garde art movements. After its Venice screening, the film will air on Sky Arte.
