Tommy Kha's debut monograph explores Asian diaspora in the American South through photography
On February 7, 2023, Aperture released 'Half, Full, Quarter,' a monograph by photographer Tommy Kha. This 176-page hardcover showcases 115 images that delve into the immigrant experience through a blend of self-portraits, landscapes, and family photos. Born in 1988 in Memphis, Kha reflects on the 'psycho-geography' of his hometown, where his mother arrived after escaping Vietnam in the early 1980s; she features prominently as both a subject and collaborator. In February 2023, an exhibition took place at Baxter St in New York. The book includes an essay by Hua Hsu and a dialogue with An-My Lê. Kha earned his BFA from Memphis College of Art in 2011 and his MFA from Yale in 2013, joining Higher Pictures Generation in 2022. The ISBN for the book is 9781597115438.
