Tommaso Cascella Revives Cervo Volante Art and Poetry Journal

Tommaso Cascella, an editor and gallerist born in Rome in 1951, has revived the art and poetry magazine Cervo Volante, originally founded in 1981 and active until 1984. The magazine was initially directed by Adriano Spatola, followed by Edoardo Sanguineti and Achille Bonito Oliva. Cascella now publishes a series of notebooks that blend art and poetry, continuing his long-standing passion for artist books that began in 1979 with collaborations with Spatola and Sanguineti. The name Cervo Volante, meaning 'flying stag' in Italian, was chosen by Spatola for the original project, which was planned as a poster resembling a kite. Cascella's recent publications include artist books that function as facsimiles of original works, emphasizing visual elements over text. The fifth volume, titled "A Placarsi occorrono anni," features artist Marco Ferri with poetic interventions by Elio Grasso. Upcoming publications include a rediscovered 1980 book project by Claudio Costa, works by Chiara Tommasi, Maurizio Sapia, Davide Sebastian, and contributions from artists like Alberto Parres, Emilio Leofreddi, Eliana Prosperi, Enrico Luzzi, and Paolo Buggiani. Cascella describes these books as time capsules that capture the creative process and spirit of their era.
