Tommaso Calabro's Milan Show Bridges Surrealism and Contemporary Art
Galleria Tommaso Calabro in Milan presents a group exhibition that blends Surrealist and contemporary works, marking the end of an era at its Piazza San Sepolcro location. The show opens with a thank-you letter from the gallerist, who plans to inaugurate three new spaces in 2024: in Milan's Corso Italia, Venice, and Feltre. The exhibition revisits artists previously shown at Palazzo Marietti, including Fontana and Man Ray, with a strong Surrealist focus. Works by Stanislao Lepri and Leonor Fini highlight their artistic dialogue, while the show also features artists linked to dealers Carlo Cardazzo and Alexander Iolas, such as Magritte, Max Ernst, Copley, Sol LeWitt, Takis, and Tinguely. A desk of Iolas is displayed in his memory. The exhibition concludes with a piece by Tiger Tateishi, a Japanese artist who worked with Sottsass at Olivetti, whose psychedelic green tigers and comic-strip canvases preview the first show at the new venue in 2024.
