Tommaso Calabro Opens One-Month Pop-Up Gallery in Chelsea, New York

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Italian gallerist Tommaso Calabro announced on social media the opening of a pop-up gallery at 545 W 23rd St in Chelsea, New York, running for just one month starting May 1, 2025. The space will launch with two concurrent exhibitions: one dedicated to American artist Harold Stevenson (1929–2018), featuring paintings and works on paper from the late 1950s to the 1970s, including the monumental Altar of Peace (1972) previously shown at Iolas Gallery in New York in the 1970s; the other showcasing young Italian artist Aldo Sergio (b. 1982), presenting new works from his Prayers series—oil paintings on paper mounted on wood that depict everyday objects at 1:1 scale on neutral backgrounds, exploring the sacred dimension of inanimate objects. This marks Sergio's first solo exhibition in the United States. Calabro chose not to participate in art fairs in 2025 due to market difficulties, opting instead for a pop-up format to build relationships with collectors, curators, and advisors at a more relaxed pace. The location in Chelsea was selected for its density of galleries and proximity to the High Line, timed to coincide with major art events in New York in May.
