Tommaso Calabro Opens New Milan Space with Tiger Tateishi Show
Galleria Tommaso Calabro has moved its location in Milan from Palazzo Marietti to Casa Grondona, situated at Corso Italia 47, a historic building dating back to 1876. The new ground-floor venue boasts three exhibition rooms and will debut on January 25, 2024, featuring a showcase of works by Japanese artist Tiger Tateishi (1941–1998). This exhibition will highlight paintings and works on paper from Tateishi's time in Milan, including early lithographs and 'vignette' paintings. Gallerist Alexander Iolas curated exhibitions for Tateishi in Geneva, New York, and Paris between 1972 and 1976. Following the Milan event, openings are planned in Venice for April 2024 and Feltre for May 2024. Tateishi, who was influenced by Cubism and Surrealism, relocated to Milan in March 1969 with his wife, artist Ichige Fumiko.
