Tomás Saraceno's zero-emission sculpture Aerocene launches in Genoa

exhibition · 2026-05-04

On July 6, 2018, Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno (born 1973 in San Miguel de Tucumán) will present a dual project in Genoa, Italy, at the former Stazione solare di Sant'Ilario and Galleria pinksummer. The performance and exhibition are dedicated to Giovanni Francia, an Italian engineer who experimented with solar energy at the same solar station. The performative project Aerocene will take place on the morning of July 6 at the Sant'Ilario facility, aligning with Francia's ideological vision. Saraceno will launch a zero-emission flying sculpture that floats using heat from the sun and infrared radiation from the Earth's surface, combining art and science to raise public awareness about renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuels. The exhibition at Galleria pinksummer will be immersive, featuring objects from the Fondo Giovanni Francia of the Fondazione Micheletti, which collaborated with Musil – Museo dell'Industria e del Lavoro di Brescia to realize the show.
