Tom Jobim's Solo Albums Explored in Permanent Exhibition at Rio Institute
In Rio de Janeiro, the Instituto Antonio Carlos Jobim has introduced a permanent exhibition called 'Tom Jobim: Discos Solo,' featuring the maestro's 12 solo albums released between 1963 and 1994. Curated by Aluísio Didier, the showcase presents rare documents, photographs, scores, personal items, and recordings. The idea for the exhibition arose from Zoom discussions during the pandemic between Didier and the late Paulo Jobim, the composer's son, which unveiled unpublished details about Jobim's artistic journey. Filmmaker Cayo Oliveira transformed these conversations into documentary films for the exhibition. Guests can explore Jobim's partnerships with Vinícius de Moraes and João Gilberto, as well as his use of a Fender Rhodes electric piano on 'Tide.' The exhibition is open daily, except Wednesdays, from 9 AM to 5 PM, starting October 9, at Rua Jardim Botânico, 1008.
