Tom Engels Appointed Director of Kunstverein München, Names Line Ebert as Incoming Curator
Tom Engels will become director of Kunstverein München starting 1 January 2026, succeeding Maurin Dietrich who has led since 2019. The Belgian curator currently serves as artistic director at Grazer Kunstverein, a position he has held since 2021. Engels co-curated the 15th Baltic Triennial in Vilnius during 2023 alongside Maya Tounta. Following his appointment, Engels selected Line Ebert as the incoming curator for the institution. Lucie Pia will remain in her role as assistant curator within the museum's team. In a statement, Engels described Kunstverein München as a space that alters how we think and feel, slowing down or accelerating internal processes. He emphasized that such venues require collective attention to be sustained and continually reimagined. Engels views the institution as a site to rehearse new ways of speaking and sensing, focusing on reworking existing elements rather than pursuing novelty.
