Tom Dixon Opens The Manzoni Restaurant and Showroom in Milan

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

British designer Tom Dixon has inaugurated The Manzoni, a multifunctional space at Via Manzoni 5 in Milan, combining a restaurant, showroom, cocktail bar, and office area. The venue seats 40 around a large cork table and 60 at smaller tables, with a dedicated product display zone. During the 2019 Milan Design Week, Dixon presented new products: Fat, an upholstered seat with a metal frame and foam body designed to embrace the body; Spring lamps, made of intertwined stainless steel strips with LED cores; and Opal polycarbonate light globes. The space also hosts concerts and musical events, reflecting Dixon's background as a bassist in the punk band Funkapolitan in 1980s London. The kitchen is led by chef Marta Pulini from Modena, who previously worked at Massimo Bottura's Bistrot and Franceschetta in the US and Italy, offering personal interpretations of Italian and Milanese cuisine. The Manzoni marks Dixon's return to Milan after his absence the previous year, moving away from temporary pop-ups. The interior design resembles his Coal Office in London, responding to the decline of traditional showrooms due to e-commerce and the blurring lines between work and leisure spaces. Meanwhile, designer Philippe Starck is a partner in the new pizzeria Amor by the Alajmo brothers at Corso Como 10.
