Tom Dixon and Ikea Unveil Modular Delakting Sofa-Bed at Milan Design Week
During Milan Design Week 2017, British designer Tom Dixon launched Multiplex, a group exhibition of allied brands at the Cinema Manzoni in Milan, a 1950s cinema designed by Alziro Bergonzo. The highlight is Delakting, a modular sofa-bed created in collaboration with Ikea. Designed for flexible, nomadic millennials, Delakting features an aluminum base and is fully dismountable for global shipping without high costs. To avoid the uniform 'Ikea effect,' Dixon and Ikea's Head of Design Marcus Engman drew inspiration from Ikea hackers and worked with design students from London, Japan, and New York to rethink the piece. The sofa-bed can transform from a bed to a sofa, adapting to various life stages. Separately, at Internoitaliano's space on Via Palermo, designer Giulio Iacchetti presented Meda, a convertible sofa produced by BertO salotti. Made with an oak frame and removable cushions, Meda can become a chaise longue, bed, or even a play hut, emphasizing high-quality craftsmanship and sustainability.
