Tokyo Ballet House by Kenta SANO & Associates Opens Studio to Street

Kenta SANO & Associates has completed Tokyo Ballet House, a four-story steel structure in Toshima, Tokyo, that merges a ballet studio with a compact residence. The 283 m² project, completed in 2024, reimagines the ballet studio as an urban stage by opening the rehearsal space toward the street, allowing passersby to become informal audience members. The design team includes Sakutaro Kakehashi and Rena Yamamoto, with structural engineering by yasuhirokaneda Structure, Beyond Engineering, and Glass Masters and Partners; lighting by Izumi Okayasu Lighting Design; interior design by Yoko Ando Design; and general contracting by Kenshosha Co., Ltd. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro. Tokyo Ballet House is categorized as mixed-use architecture, performing arts, and residential, reflecting a novel approach to integrating private practice with public visibility.
