Tobit Roche's India-Inspired Paintings at The Art Stable, Dorset
Tobit Roche's seventh exhibition at The Art Stable, 'Painting India over Time', runs from 13 June to 10 July 2026. Born in Manchester in 1954, Roche grew up in Hong Kong, Canada, and India, with the Himalayas and Rajasthan's Aravalli Range leaving a lasting impression. The show combines plein air works from Nepal and Pakistan with studio pieces, using a homemade pochade box for small outdoor studies and building larger works with layered glazes applied by hand. Roche studied at Ontario College of Art (1974–1976), Camberwell School of Art, and worked with Duncan Grant at Charleston. His collectors include David Bowie and Cate Blanchett. His Lingam series explores tantric philosophy. He divides his time between India, London, and St Leonards-on-Sea.
