Tobia Bezzola appointed director of MASI Lugano
Tobia Bezzola, born in Bern in 1961, has been unanimously appointed director of the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI) in Lugano, succeeding Marco Franciolli (born in Bellinzona in 1956). Bezzola, who will officially take office on January 1, 2018, aims to internationalize the museum by leveraging his network built over thirty years. He emphasizes collaboration with artists, collectors, and other institutions to develop ambitious projects. The first exhibition of 2018, featuring Swiss photographer Balthasar Burkhard, results from a collaboration between MASI and the Folkwang Museum in Essen, where Bezzola previously worked. Bezzola plans a multidisciplinary program encompassing theater, music, and dance, facilitated by the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura spaces.
