Tiziano's Early and Late Masterpieces Face Off in Ancona

The Pinacoteca Civica Comunale 'F. Podesti' in Ancona presents 'Tiziano&Tiziano: due capolavori a confronto', a comparative exhibition of two altarpieces by Titian from different phases of his career. The show, curated by Stefano Zuffi and organized by the Municipality of Ancona in partnership with MSC Cruises, runs from June 30 to November 30. The two works are the Pala Gozzi (1520), normally housed in the Pinacoteca, and the Crocifissione (1558–1559), usually kept in the nearby church of San Domenico but moved due to earthquake restoration. The exhibition highlights Titian's evolving style: the youthful Pala Gozzi shows Raphael's influence with vibrant colors and lively gestures, while the mature Crocifissione features dramatic brown and reddish tones and increasingly pathetic expressions. The display includes works by Lorenzo Lotto, Girolamo Dente, and Sebastiano del Piombo, with didactic materials and a video. The exhibition is part of a new tourism strategy for Ancona, leveraging its artistic heritage. MSC Cruises will promote the event aboard the MSC Sinfonia, targeting the approximately 40,000 tourists who arrive annually at the port. Mayor Valeria Mancinelli emphasized the exhibition as an opportunity for rebirth after earthquake damage, while Leonardo Massa, Country Manager Italy of MSC Cruises, highlighted the company's commitment to valorizing Italy's cultural assets.
