TIPO Prato explores Etruscan origins across Tuscany

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The second edition of TIPO – Turismo Industriale Prato, promoted by Comune di Prato, Fondazione Museo del Tessuto, and Fondazione CDSE, launches on October 29 with artistic interventions by Edoardo Nardin along the industrial tour Il filo dell’acqua. Guided visits run until April 2023, showcasing the textile district—Europe’s largest—through factories designed by major architects. This edition expands to trace Etruscan origins in Carmignano and Artimino, part of the Toscana Terra Etrusca project by Toscana Promozione Turistica, covering 53 municipalities. The itinerary includes Fiesole’s cyclopean walls and Roman theatre, Florence’s Museo Archeologico Nazionale with the Chimera of Arezzo, Volterra’s Etruscan walls and Museo Etrusco Guarnacci (reopened with 3D scans by American students, presented October 28 at Detroit Foundation), and the Costa degli Etruschi with Populonia’s seaside necropolis and Baratti’s hematite sands.
