Tintoretto's masterpieces revealed under new iGuzzini lighting at Scuola Grande di San Rocco

A new lighting system has been inaugurated in the Sala Consolare of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice, designed to reveal Tintoretto's 33 paintings of Old and New Testament scenes. The project, completed for the 500th anniversary of the painter's birth, was developed by lighting designer Alberto Pasetti Bombardella. It features six programmable lighting scenes that allow guides and historians to highlight different aspects of the room, including works by Marchiori and Pianta. Franco Posocco, Guardian Grando, noted that the lighting uncovered black-on-black drawing details in 'Prayer in the Garden,' deepening understanding of Tintoretto's dramatic narrative. Alberto Bonisoli, Minister of Cultural Heritage, praised the project as an example of innovation. Technical sponsor iGuzzini, led by CEO Andrea Sasso and President Adolfo Guzzini, provided IoT-enabled intelligent lamps that adjust color temperature and intensity based on natural light, similar to their system at the Scrovegni Chapel. The company aims to enhance cultural heritage perception, with Sasso noting that data collection over a year will optimize the algorithm. The project also addresses color restoration, reviving faded blues and reds.
