Tintoretto 500: Major Retrospective Opens in Venice After 80 Years
Launched in September 2018, the Tintoretto 500 project at Palazzo Ducale and the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice is the first significant exhibition centered on Jacopo Robusti (Tintoretto) since 1937. Curated by Roberta Battaglia, Paola Marini, and Vittoria Romani, the Gallerie dell'Accademia showcases around sixty pieces from Tintoretto's formative years (1538-1548), demonstrating the impact of Bonifacio Veronese and others. Notable works include the Conversion of Saint Paul and the Miracle of the Slave. At Palazzo Ducale, Robert Echols and Frederick Ilchman curated a focus on both religious and secular themes. The exhibition features a map of Tintoretto's Venetian works and is set to travel to Washington in early 2019, with restorations funded by Save Venice.
