Tina Modotti Retrospective at CAMERA Torino Features 300 Works

The Centro Italiano per la Fotografia (CAMERA) in Turin presents 'Tina Modotti. L’opera', a major retrospective of the Italian photographer curated by Riccardo Costantini. Running from October to February, the exhibition showcases 300 photographs spanning Modotti's life and career across Europe and Mexico. Born in Udine, Modotti emigrated to the US, moved to Mexico, was exiled, and lived in Germany, Russia, Spain, and Mexico, where she died at 46. The show highlights her multifaceted work—documenting daily life, injustice, labor, political activism, poverty, and modernity's contradictions—alongside rare materials like videos, magazines, documents, and photos from her only solo exhibition in 1929. Costantini emphasizes the exhibition refocuses on her pure artistic output from 1923–1930, countering the biographical emphasis typical in Modotti studies.
