Timothée Talard's Shift to Abstraction and Slogans at Galerie Gourvennec Ogor
Timothée Talard presents his second exhibition at Galerie Gourvennec Ogor in Marseille, running from August 31 to October 18, 2014. The show marks a departure from his earlier watercolors, featuring abstract paintings and slogans spray-painted on light boxes placed on the floor. The works explore themes of disillusionment, pollution, and aftermath, with references to oil platforms, broken antique statues, and constellations. The gallery expanded to a second space for this occasion. Critic Charles-Arthur Boyer notes the subtle interplay between the pieces, describing the light box texts as the words of a disenchanted awakening after a late night, and the paintings as iridescent and seductive yet toxic, like gasoline. The exhibition includes a series of abstract watercolors of oil platforms and three abstract watercolors evoking nocturnal pollution or candle smoke. A set of constellation watercolors suggests a less imaginary beyond for those familiar with the artist. The show reveals a newfound maturity and density in Talard's work.
