Timo Nasseri's Geometric Inquiry at Lawrie Shabibi

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Timo Nasseri's solo exhibition 'All Borrow Their Light' at Lawrie Shabibi in Dubai presents works blending mathematics, science, and Islamic architecture. The show includes 'Epistrophy #8' (2017), a muqarnas-inspired sculpture of polished steel and Styrofoam embedded in a wall, creating a kaleidoscopic effect. 'Atlas' (2023), a four-metre-long painting, uses abstract shapes and vivid colors inspired by 'Razzle Dazzle' military camouflage used by British and US Navy ships in WWI and WWII. 'One and One #49' (2023) is a drawing with white ink on black paper, made with only a ruler and compass, incorporating tiny mathematical equations. The exhibition also features 80 hand-crafted clay figures 'Teardrop Vessels' (2020–2022), created during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, inspired by Bauhaus style. Nasseri, born in Berlin to a German mother and Iranian father, started as a photographer in 1997 and turned to sculpture in 2004. The show runs until 28 April 2023.
