artist · 2026-04-20

Tim Rollins, an artist from the United States, died at the age of 62. In 1982, he founded the Art & Knowledge Workshop alongside the student group K.O.S. (Kids of Survival) while teaching at a Bronx middle school. Over the span of more than 30 years, Rollins worked with K.O.S., which has seen over 50 members come and go, to produce allegorical art, including paintings, sculptures, and drawings. His works, such as Animal Farm – G7 (1989–92), incorporated elements from various printed sources, including musical scores, literature, legal documents, and comic books, to confront elitist notions in fine art. K.O.S. honored Rollins as a friend, mentor, and father figure, while current members, including Angel Abreu and Jorge Abreu, plan to continue their collaborative efforts.
