Tim Eitel's Silent Figures: A Painter Between Worlds

artist · 2026-04-23

Tim Eitel, a 1971 native of Leonberg, has been residing between Berlin and Paris since relocating two years ago, following periods in Los Angeles, New York, and Berlin. His artwork often portrays melancholic themes with contemplative figures. Eitel draws inspiration from his own photographs taken in urban environments, translating them onto canvas without any preliminary sketches. Since 2004, his darker color palette has been influenced by the noir aesthetic of Los Angeles. His recent pieces include depictions of homeless tents and pigeons. Currently, he is focused on three large canvases, featuring schoolgirls and boys in sweatshirts. Eitel employs layering techniques and fabric for facial details. His works have been showcased at venues like The Pace Gallery (2009) and Galerie Eigen + Art (2010) until 2012.
