Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine filmed at Belgian castle near Antwerp
Tim Burton's new fantasy film Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was shot at Kasteel Torenhof in Brasschaat, Belgium, about ten kilometers north of Antwerp. The castle, previously owned by a biscuit manufacturer and not open to the public, was chosen for its worn yet welcoming atmosphere. Burton stated it felt like a place where special children would want to live. Production designer Gavin Bocquet noted that other locations felt too urban or typical, unlike Belgian castles. The film is based on Ransom Riggs' bestseller and follows a group of children with special powers. It marks Burton's return to fantasy after the biographical Big Eyes about painter Margaret Keane, played by Amy Adams. The film is currently in Italian theaters.
