Tim Burton's First Major Exhibition Opens in Turin

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The National Cinema Museum of Turin hosts 'Il mondo di Tim Burton', the first major exhibition dedicated to the American filmmaker in Italy. Curated by Jenny He and strongly supported by museum director Domenico De Gaetano, the show features 540 works and cost 900,000 euros. It focuses on Burton's creative process, displaying sketches, storyboards, drawings, and life-size mannequins. The exhibition occupies the entire museum, from the helical ramp to the gardens. Burton was awarded the Stella della Mole prize for his innovative contribution to cinema. On October 11, 2023, he will hold a sold-out masterclass. Throughout the exhibition, educational activities, film screenings at Cinema Massimo (November 2023–February 2024), and workshops with Scuola Holden are scheduled. The exhibition originated from a 2008 MoMA proposal for a traveling show that had never reached Italy until now.
