Tiffany's Landmark NYC Store Reopens as Art-Filled Destination

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

After a four-year renovation, Tiffany & Co.'s flagship store at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street reopens on April 28, 2023, now under LVMH ownership (acquired in 2021 for $16 billion). The 10-story building, originally designed by Cross&Cross in 1940, was restructured by OMA with three new floors added. Peter Marino curated the interior, featuring a spiral staircase with rock crystal balustrade as a homage to Elsa Peretti. The store houses around 40 artworks, including Jean-Michel Basquiat's 'Equals Pi' at the entrance, plus works by Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, Richard Prince, Rashid Johnson, Anish Kapoor, and Julian Schnabel (who also created limited-edition plates). The eighth and ninth floors host exhibition spaces and a terrace. Other amenities include a Blue Box Café by chef Daniel Boulud and an Audrey Hepburn experience room with a replica of her Givenchy dress from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. LVMH's Alexandre Arnault, vice president and communications head, drove the art-focused direction. The renovation cost remains undisclosed.
