Tiepolo Fragments Reimagined in Photo Collaboration at David Krut Projects
The 'Painting Then For Now' exhibition at David Krut Projects showcases the works of art historian Svetlana Alpers, abstract artist James Hyde, and photographer Barney Kulok. It centers on Giambatista Tiepolo's artworks from Ca' Dolfin, Venice, which are currently housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On August 3, 2006, the trio captured sections of these paintings using an 8x10-inch camera. The display features nineteen enlarged prints with minimal digital alterations, inviting viewers to trace their origins back to the Met's Tiepolos. This exhibition promotes a contemplative viewing experience, differing from standard museum practices. Additionally, a book published by David Krut Projects in 2007 includes an essay by Alpers, with the photographs presenting a more somber interpretation of Tiepolo.
