Tibetan Collective Khadhok Receives 2025 Rubin Museum Himalayan Art Prize

award · 2026-04-19

The Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art announced on October 9 that Khadhok, a Tibetan artist collective located in Dharamsala, is the recipient of the 2025 Rubin Museum Himalayan Art Prize. This prestigious award, which amounts to USD 30,000 and was created in 2024, is the largest of its kind, aimed at supporting contemporary artists linked to the Himalayan region. Established in 2023 by Lea Taake, Tashi Nyima, and Tenzin Melak, Khadhok focuses on promoting emerging diasporic Tibetan artists and draws inspiration from the late Jigme Choedak (1997–2023), who championed young Tibetan talent. Their initiatives include exhibitions, workshops, and community engagement, and they expressed gratitude for the recognition, which enhances their confidence. Jorrit Britschgi, the museum's executive director, commended their leadership and influence. This marks the second consecutive year a Tibetan artist has won, following Tenzin Gyurmey Dorjee's award last year.
