Thyssen-Bornemisza and TBA21 Launch Collaborative Exhibition Series in Madrid

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid has partnered with TBA21, the foundation of Francesca Thyssen, to host two contemporary art exhibitions per year over a four-year period. The inaugural show, "Más-que-humanas," features works by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and Tomás Saraceno, curated by Stefanie Hessler. Gonzalez-Foerster's video "OPERA (QM.15)" (2016) shows the artist lip-syncing Maria Callas arias, while Saraceno presents spider web studies, including drawings and laser installations. The exhibition runs through December 1, 2019, in the museum's basement and permanent collection galleries. TBA21, founded in Vienna in 2002 and directed by Carlos Urroz since 2019, recently opened its Madrid operational headquarters in the Barrio de las Letras. Francesca Thyssen cited her father's values of peace and environmental respect as inspiration for the foundation's focus on interdisciplinary, socially engaged projects addressing climate change.
