Thypoch Launches Retro-Inspired Eureka 28mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens
Thypoch's Eureka 28mm f/2.8 ASPH. pancake lens, announced last November, is now available for purchase. The lens draws design inspiration from the built-in prime of Ilford's 1950s Advocate film camera. It features a lacquered solid brass barrel, available in matte black or silver (the latter with a white front ring). The Leica M-mount version measures 20mm in length and weighs under 140g; the Fujifilm X-mount version is slightly longer at 27mm. Despite its compact size, the lens comprises seven glass elements in four groups, promising sharpness and minimal aberrations. It has a 28mm focal length (42mm equivalent on APS-C) and a minimum focus distance of 0.4 meters. The lens is manual focus, with length extending during close focusing. PetaPixel's Chris Niccolls, who tested the lens, praised its rugged build and solid feel. The lens is priced at $459, with an optional M-to-X adapter for $20 more.
