Three Women Photographers at Galerie de la Filature: Claude Batho, Annelies Strba, Léa Crespi
Galerie de la Filature in Mulhouse, France, presented a group exhibition from January 28 to March 23, 2003, featuring three women photographers: Claude Batho (1935-1981), Annelies Strba (Slovakia, 1947), and Léa Crespi (Paris, 1978). Despite their different origins, generations, and practices, the exhibition juxtaposed their works to highlight resonances between intimate and public spheres. Batho's photographs, mostly from the 1970s, were noted for their modernity and subtle light treatment, with landscapes, interiors, portraits, and still lifes. Strba's audiovisual installation 'Shades of Time' explored her family history across four generations, blending nostalgia and documentary, with images spanning ten years and references to Central Europe, Japan, and England. Crespi presented pages from her daily journal, pinned to the wall, depicting her everyday environment, travels, and encounters in an autobiographical style. The exhibition was reviewed by Bernard Marcelis.
