Three Women Painters at La Vigie: Claire Colin-Colin, Isabela Kowalczyk, Catherine Sérikoff
From November 28, 2014 to February 24, 2015, La Vigie in Nîmes presents 'Rencontres n°44' featuring three women artists working in painting: Claire Colin-Colin, Isabela Kowalczyk, and Catherine Sérikoff. The exhibition occupies four floors of former studios, forcing the works to confront the space's domestic traces—sinks, tiles, crooked walls. Claire Colin-Colin contributes both paintings and an in situ intervention where she scraped walls to reveal layers of paint and plaster. Her small-format canvases show sedimentation of color through overlays and traces. Catherine Sérikoff's aluminum panels repeat a vocabulary of two colors: an irregular form and its counter-form, emphasizing color's material presence. Her smooth surfaces are placed centimeters from the wall. Isabela Kowalczyk's reliefs project forward from the wall, using strange forms from daily life with interlocking colors that create spatial drawings. The works were previously seen at Jeune Création (Claire Colin-Colin), Novembre à Vitry (Claire Colin-Colin and Isabela Kowalczyk), and Galerie AL/MA in Montpellier (Catherine Sérikoff). The hanging fosters dialogue while showing three distinct approaches to colored form today.
